Cisco
Cisco is a commonly known name around the technology industry and in businesses. Cisco is one of the top providers in computer products and research technology, networking solutions, technical support and training for organizational networks. Currently Cisco is in the process of collaborating a release of new VPLS standards, Virtual Private LAN Service. The VPLS will be competing for market share in the wireless industry. The advantage with the VPLS is that it will expand the reach of local area networks, allowing users to create private data connections along public networks; linking all organizational departments together. Virtual Private LAN Services works similar to the Ethernet but differs in execution and cost. VPLS transmits data through different network service providers instead of using costly Ethernet switches. The use of VPLS can simplify and lower service provider’s needs for resources, management of network, and connectivity. Azhar Sayeed, IOS Technologies Division of Cisco, stresses that, “only when we [Cisco] more deployment experience will we really know enough about how VPLS works in real-life situations and what we will need to do to make it better”. Currently Cisco is testing out the VPLS standard in field trials but it still will not be a common standard for another year or more. The future of VPLS is just beginning and there is still much work to be done to improve and promote the new standard of wireless to corporate America.
