Review
This was the premiere episode broadcast on FOX on January 10, 1999. Many people remember it because of the green F-5 tornado coming out of the toilet. That was one of many memorable moments to come in this great series. This first episode ranks as one of the funniest episodes from the entire series.
This episode marks the introduction of several key characters including Walter Burkett, who was still a stranger to the boys, and Sanchez, who was to be avoided because of his funny voice.
The VCD
My source for this episode was the March 9th rebroadcast on FOX. I taped it myself in SP on my hifi VCR off the air. The picture is actually better than cable was able to deliver at the time. I also added the credits from the January 10th premiere broadcast. Both the audio and video are near perfect, although there is a slight ghost of a wide vertical band.
This was one of the first episodes I captured, and as expected, I learned much from the experience. The video was captured at 480x480 since it was before my PC could handle a 640x480 capture. I learned a lot on this episode in terms of audio. I actually captured the audio three seperate times before I got it right. Eventually I ran the audio through my DAT deck to condition it before it got to my sound card. Now it looks and sounds great.
I may go back and add the original credits (captured from a Trio broadcast) before I make the DVD. Of course the 'Trio' logo will be removed.
