Welcome to The Jake
|
Wow, it's been while since the last update to The Jake. My apollogies. It seems that real life has gotten in the way of everything lately. Furthermore, I spent a considerable amount of time making changes to the structure of my web pages. Some of you might know that along with this page I have a Boston page, both of which are linked to the main page. The new structure makes it easier to update in the future. If the last page was rockin', then this page is head bangin'! This page should be even easier to read and navigate. Notice the Table of Contents to the left. For those of you that had problems with the quick navigation picks last time, you need to update your web browser. If you are running Netscape ver. 2, get ver. 3.
For those keeping track, this is the fifth installment of The Jake. If you missed one, email me and I'll see if I can dig up the page(s) you missed. In the mean time, check out the archived photos.

Darryl (awake) & Jake (asleep)
In this photo, Jake was about 3 months old (maybe even less, but I can't remember).
News & Announcements

Here's the skinny on things lately. Jake will be six months old this March 11th. He has grown a lot. He's eating baby food now (rice cereal, carrot goo, apple goo, etc). He likes Apple goo. He liked carrot goo too except it made some nasty goo in his diaper. He's had some "intestinal" problems resulting in some mucous and even some blood in his daiper. For a short while we thought that he might be allergic to Melanie's milk. It turns out that is not the case, but he does seem sensitive to dairy products.

Jake's dedication
Melanie, Jake, and Darryl at Jakob's dedication ceremony
Jake had his official dedication on November 29, 1998. It was a real touching ceremony with both Melanie and me balling our eyes out (actually I think the grandparents got some tears in their eyes too). It was a short ceremony where the pastor prayed over Jake dedicating his life to the Lord and asking His protection over Jake. Then he presented us with Jake's first bible and a rose for Melanie. Jake slept the whole time and the pastor asked us if we'd given him some booze, which got a big laugh.
This baby is so smart and handsome and he gets smarter and better looking everyday. And I am not just saying that because I am his father. People follow us around in stores and tell us how cute he is all the time! And after his dedication, people were saying how smart he looked. It's the way he focuses on your face and smiles a "knowing" look. He never has that "dumb baby glazed over" look or the deer in the headlights look.
One final note - Jake is finally over his collic, but now he's teething. :-( Bye bye Mylacon, hello Tylenol.

His eyes are still blue/brown. At his recent checkup, the doctor told us that his eyes were gonna stay that way. We figure that both our genetics are too stubborn to give it up. The doctor also told us something else, that Jakob is just "perfect."

These photos are more recent than has been previously posted to this page, but they are not really current. We've taken some video, but no photos for a while since our camera battery has gone dead (!). Oh well. Enjoy these for now and we'll get a new camera battery for the next installment of The Jake.

G-ma Susan with Jake
A lot of that dark hair has fallen out and is slowly being replaced by new growth (on Jake)

Standing in paw paw's lap
He likes to stand up. We think he's gonna walk before he crawls.

Jake likes his bath time.
He has just gotten out of the bath in this photo and is still wrapped in a towel. Look at that cute smile.

Jake loves the bouncy chair.
So do we. He stays busy long enough for us to grab a quick bite to eat.
In this photo, he is only a couple months old.

Jerry Williams (aka Ole Granpa)
Jake doesn't get to see his ole granpa that often. We took a trip to Indiana to visit the folks up north.

Kathy Williams (aka g-ma Kathy)
Jake likes to play peek-a-boo. He has such a cute laugh.
The Jake F.A.Q
|
Here is a list of Frequently Asked Questions (commonly known as an F.A.Q.) that we thought we'd include. Not that we're growing tired of answering these questions (who could get tired of talking about their son?), but we thought it'd be helpful.
- How much does he weigh?
At his latest checkup, he weighed 17 lbs., 14 oz. We think he weighs about 20 pounds right now. Looking at our arms you'd think we've been working out.
- Is he sleeping through the night yet?
This one is asked a lot. He usually sleeps through except for one or two wake/feedings. He sleeps about six hours until he wakes up first, then he get's fed and goes right back to sleep.
- Who does he look like?
We've finally figured out who he looks like. From the eyes up, including the ears, he looks like Mommy. From the nose down, he looks like daddy.
- How old is he now?
As of March 11, 1999, he'll be zero and a half years old (six months).
- When does he see the doctor next?
His next appointment is for his 7 month appointment.
- When the web page be updated?
This is a tough one to answer. I'll try to update it once a month. If not, then how about once every two months? It really comes down to how many new pictures we have available and how much free time I have to work on it. Feel free to bug me if it's just been too long.

Things We've Learned So Far
|
What follows is our list of things that a parent can only learn from experience. It's surprising that it's taken us so long to learn some of these. The list will most certainly grow as Jake gets older. It should be interesting to see what get added to this list as time goes by.
- Don't get baby out of car seat unless he is crying.
- Don't change diaper at first sound of pooping.
- Rice cereal is the strongest cement known to man.
- Burp baby before he eats too much.
- Never, ever run out of food.
- Vaccinations suck.
- At bath time keep baby in diaper until absolute last moment.
- Babies don't care whether or not they are wearing diapers.
- Diapers - Too tight: bad, too loose: bad.
- When baby ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.
- A crying baby provokes panic in adults.
- Caffinated coke produces caffinated milk.
- When baby is asleep, awake only if the house is on fire.
- Babies are nocturnal.
- Babies have sharp claws (especially when in pain).
- Babies have a strong grip (especially when grabbing a handful of hair).
- Wait until it is time for portrait sitting before putting his outfit on.
- When getting portraits made, go with somebody who doesn't care how cute the baby is. Let him hold the money.
