What's New

This page is ROCKIN' now! I'm gettin' better at this. Hopefully this is the best looking page yet. One of these days, this page just might look somewhat professional. :-) But it's more than looks; this new page should be easier to read, easier to navigate, and more informative than ever. Text is now fully integrated with the photos, there are now "quick navigation" picks above, section headings now introduce each section. It should also be easier on the eyes since I toned down the background colors slightly (and added a little texture while I was at it). There are lots of surprises in this page, including some new photos, so have fun!

In case you are keeping track, this is the fourth installment of "The Jake Web Page." If you missed one, email me and I'll see if I can dig up the page(s) you missed. In the mean time, check out the archived photos.

Jake's Dedication

Jakob will be officially dedicated on Sunday, November 29, 1998 at the 11:15 service at North Star Church. If you are reading this, then you are invited. Mark your calendars. By the way, I say "officially" because we have already given our child to God unofficially. This will be a dedication service to publicly acknowledge our commitment to raising a Godly son. And someday when Jake is ready, he will make a decision to come to Christ and he will want to get baptized. My eyes are tearing up just typing this.

Jake is now eight weeks old. He looks about twice the size he was when he was born. How time flies.

Jakob's vitals as of November 7, 1998
weight 11 lbs 2 oz 90th percentile
"height" 22 3/4" 95th percentile
head circ. 14 3/4" 70% percentile

New Photos

Ah goo! Melanie went to the Walmart photo studio to take advantage of the free 8x10 photo offer. Wouldn't you know it, she bought the farm. But just look at the cute li'l guy! How could she resist? Next time I am going with her.
Of course if I go, we'll probably wind up buying two farms. Look at that face! I wonder what is going through his mind. Maybe he's pretending that he's driving a race car or something... or perhaps a spaceship. :-) Use the Force, Luke.
Hey baby, how's about comin' over to my crib? Jake sometimes makes the funniest expressions. He looks so grown up here. Our little boy is growing up... sniff!
You know? I am toying with the idea of setting up a little photo studio in the house. This can't be too hard. And I bet it'd be a lot cheaper! Hey! Who turned out da lights?
Woo hoo! It's Christmas time! Wow, Thanksgiving is just around the corner. Melanie and I have a lot to be thankful for. Thank you, God, for giving us such a wonderful and healthy baby boy, and uneventful pregnancy. We both love him more than we thought we were capable of. Christmas is coming and we feel like we already have the greatest gift.

Things We've Learned So Far

What follows is our list of things that a parent can only learn from experience. It's surprising that it's taken us eight weeks to learn some of these. The list will most certainly grow as Jake gets older. It should be interesting to see what get added to this list as time goes by.

  • Don't get baby out of car seat unless he is crying.
  • Don't change diaper at first sound of pooping.
  • When baby is hungry feed him.
  • Burp baby before he eats too much.
  • Never, ever run out of food.
  • Vaccinations suck.
  • At bath time keep baby in diaper until absolute last moment.
  • Babies don't care whether or not they are wearing diapers.
  • Diapers - Pampers: good, Publix Brand: bad.
  • Diapers - Too tight: bad, too loose: bad.
  • When baby ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.
  • A crying baby provokes panic in adults.
  • Caffinated coke produces caffinated milk.
  • When baby is asleep, awake only if the house is on fire.
  • Babies are nocturnal.
  • Babies have sharp claws (especially when in pain).
  • Wait until it is time for portrait sitting before putting his outfit on.
  • When getting portraits made, go with somebody who doesn't care how cute the baby is. Let him hold the money.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here is a list of Frequently Asked Questions (commonly known as an F.A.Q.) that we thought we'd include. Not that we're growing tired of answering these questions (who could get tired of talking about their son?), but we thought it'd be helpful.

  1. How much does he weigh?
At four weeks old, he officially weighed 11 lbs., 2 oz. We weighed him on a bathroom scale the other day at eight weeks old, and he weighed 14 lbs, 8 oz.

  2. Is he sleeping through the night yet?
This one is asked a lot. He usually sleeps through except for one or two wake/feedings. Lately, he sleeps about six hours until he wakes up first. And you know what? It really doesn't bother us too much getting up for him. What is probably more important to us is how peacefully he sleeps.

  3. Who does he look like?
We've finally figured out who he looks like. From the eyes up, including the ears, he looks like Mommy. From the nose down, he looks like daddy.

  4. How old is he now?
As of November 11, 1998, he'll be two months old.

  5. When does he see the doctor next?
His next appointment is November 19, 1998 for his 2 month appointment.

Contact Us

email me Please email me and tell me what you think of my son, as well as your thoughts and ideas about this web page. I really am interested in what you have to say. After all, why else would I even bother to share photos of my son if I didn't enjoy hearing all the comments?

BTW, Melanie will also see any mail sent to my email address. We're in this together you know. If you want to try and sneak one past me, you can try my alternate email address. I only check that address when I am at home, but Melanie is there all the time.
