Site News
New design should make it easier for you to browse and easier for me to maintain.

This left section will be host to several items designed for quick browsing. The Recent Photos and Vital Stats sections will give you a quick glimpse into Jake's life. This section, Site News, tells you what is new with the website, so you don't miss anything. And finally Looking Back will allow you to see the old Jake websites in case you did miss something.

  Welcome
First time at the beach (Destin, FL 2000)
Well, it has been TOO LONG since we've had an update here - about a year and a half. So I figured it was finally time for a Jake update. My appologies for not keeping this page up-to-date as promised. Raising a kid takes a lot of time. Hopefully, I will be able to better serve your needs in the future. As I've gotten better at web design, I've been able to create pages that are easier to maintain. Soon those kinds of changes will make their way to this page and as a result, it will be less of a hassle to maintain.

What happened over the past year
Swimming
Last year, Jake did not want to wear any "swimmies" (you know, any kind of floatation device). This year, the first time he went to the pool he wore them, proudly announced "Look Mom! I'm a fish!", and started swimming all over the pool. He loves swimming.

Hiking the mountain
Shortly after he turned two, we decided that he needed to experience hiking Kennesaw Mountain. I was prepared to carry him all the way up and back down again if I had to. But he would have no part of that. He hiked it all by himself. In fact, he had more energy than we did. The others on the trail were amazed at him doing so well. Now we go all the time.

The real Thomas
In May we took Jake to Chattanooga to the Train Museum in order to see Thomas the Tank Engine in real life. What an event that was! Jake had the best time. We even got to ride in one of Thomas's coaches. Jake is normally a bit frightened by giant characters but he was mesmerized by the site of a real life Sir Toppam Hat. He sat on his lap and gave him "high five". And he stood and just watched in awe as Sir Toppam Hatt greeted other kids. Jake also got his first (temporary) tattoo but only after daddy got one first. So I had to walk around for days (these things last forever) with Percy on my forearm.

Things We've Learned So Far
Back by popular demand is our list of things that a parent can only learn from experience.

  • Raising a kid is very time consuming.
  • Man, this kid can yell!
  • Man, this kid can run!
  • Our driveway is too steep.
  • Booboos are right of passage.
  • Camcorders never have a charged battery when you need it.
  • When Jake takes a bath, you get wet too.
  • It is possible to memorize every line in every Disney movie.
  • VeggieTales are cool!
  • It's not okay to say 'F***!' even if the guy did steal your parking spot.
