Darryl's Unofficial Boston Page A Tribute to the Greatest Rock & Roll Band Ever Where was Boston on this day in history?
There has never been another band like Boston and I doubt there ever will be. Boston came out of nowhere in 1976 and instantly became a super-group. Within six months their debut album was platinum, and today Boston has sold over 18 million copies, a feat that hasn't been matched. Of course I don't remember any of that; I was only eight when Boston was released. It wasn't until I heard Don't Look Back that I became aware of this awesome rock and roll music. Don't Look Back is still my favorite album even today.
Some people will tell you that Boston was nothing but Tom Scholz with his touring band, which may be true today, but was not true back in the early days. Tom played a significant role, but I believe that the other musicians had more of an influence than Tom would care to admit. Boston back in 1976-79 was a band of very talented musicians who actually played as a band out in bars in the early days. They fed off each other's abilities and interacted musically and creatively. I think that during those days playing in bars and clubs, Boston the band laid the foundation of a creative force that would last for three albums.
Tom Scholz, Brad Delp, Barry Goudreau, Sib Hashian, and Fran Sheehan were the original members. I personally would like to see a return of the original band, especially Barry Goudreau. The current line up (as of last tour) is Tom Scholz, Brad Delp, Gary Pihl, Kimbery Dahme, Jeff Neal, Fran Cosmo, and Anthony Cosmo. A very talented group, perhaps more talented individually than the original line-up, but I prefer the original band's ability to "groove."
This web page is dedicated to the original Boston. Rock on!
