One of the best Third Stage live recordings. Definately worth getting.

More Than Third Stage is a good live bootleg from fairly early in the Third Stage tour. It's a nice recording and has decent artwork.

The set is somewhat short, before the addition of "Hitch a Ride", as was the case for the earlier shows but still very enjoyable. Just ask anyone who attended. :-) But the recording captures almost every minute of it from the opening introduction to the very last song performed (almost. It is missing the very last song, "Party"). The highlights of the performance are the usuals - the "It's Been Such a Long Time" interlude and the awesome extended Hollyann.

The sound quality of the recording is great, especially in comparison to others from this tour. There is no hiss and no tape flip, leading me to believe that this was a DAT recording. The bass maxes out a little during "Foreplay/Long Time", but not badly. There are some bad spots, most notably during 'The Launch'. There is a very slight hum, but it isn't even noticeable except during the quietest moments. I wouldn't say these problems are enough to detract from the overall great quality of the recording. The mix is good, but the crowd sounds a bit distant. I'd say it was recorded from the upper level.

The artwork is limited in that there is only a card for a booklet and a back cover. The front cover and back cover show shots of Tom Scholz live during the Third Stage tour, but probably not from that night as he is wearing different outfits in each shot. No other band members are shown. The back side of the "booklet" card is a nice shot of (I believe) the Russian satilite MIR with the Earth in the background. It's somewhat remiscent of the cover of Third Stage.

If you are looking for bootleg from the Third Stage tour, then consider this one. Despite its flaws, it's still one of the best. It should be noted that there is at least one other recording of this concert that has every song.
