"Masterport" does it again!

Finally, there is another commercial bootleg from the Greatest Hits tour! This one is heads and shoulders above Greatest Hits Live on all fronts. The sound is superior, the set is longer, and even the artwork is more interesting.

The sound quality is superb. This boot does not suffer from the hollow sound that GHL has. It's not perfect, as is the case with most boots, but it's close. My favorite "flaw" in the otherwise perfect audio occurs during "Amanda". The person taping is heard shouting "SHUT UP" to some chatty people. Pretty funny. I've felt like doing that on ocassion. It's also a good mix. The taper's seat must've been in that "sweet spot" where the sound is just right (probably close to the sound guy).

As for the set, it is longer than GHL, but they still did not perform "The Journey" after "Don't Look Back". Instead, they went right into "Blues a La Boston". The Journey is listed on the back cover, but it is not performed. But we get a longer encore, so I guess it's a decent trade-off.

The artwork is interesting too. The front cover is sort of boring, but there is a good photo of Tom Scholz playing the accoustic guitar (as he did on the intro to 'Peace of Mind' in 1997). The back cover has a nice high-res photo of the entire band on stage waving goodbye. I believe this is the promo/press photo for the GH album. Inside the front cover is my favorite photo. I wonder where this photo came from. It shows the whole band, probably inside the SR&D office) rehearsing. Brad Delp is wearing a "Livin for Dave" shirt, and Dave Sikes is wearing a "Dave" shirt. Very funny.

In summary, this is the best commercial boot from the 1997 tour. It's close to perfect. There may be a few fan recordings floating around that are better than this one... but you'll be hard pressed to find one. And this one comes with great artwork. I am starting to see a pattern of excellence with CD boots released under the name "Masterport". Keep 'em coming guys!
