An extremely rare find. Get it if you can.
Alive is labled '1978', but it was actually recorded from the King Biscuit Flower Hour FM broadcast in June 1977. This particular concert is a popular subject for bootlegs, but not usually this broadcast. The set from this broadcast is only found on three bootlegs (all LP's), and it just so happens that these LP's are among the oldest and rarest of all the Boston bootlegs. The concert was aired again and again through the years, but the setlist in later broadcasts was edited to remove the "Guitar Solo", "This Time", and eventually "Television Politician". Interestingly, as popular as the Long Beach 1977 recording is, this particular broadcast has yet to be released on CD.
Since this was recorded professionally, the sound quality is top notch. The performance is intense as well, highlighted by an extended rockin' version of Smokin'. The only annoying thing about this recording is the song order has been messed around with. And although the most rare songs are represented on this LP, Peace of Mind and Foreplay are still missing.
As for the artwork, it's is as basic as it gets - a plain white cover with a hand-drawn Boston spaceship on the front cover. Nothing spectacular here. There are several inserts with the LP including a letter blasting "corporate record companies" and a sheet stating that "This is not a bootleg". Ha ha, yeah right.
